If you’re anything like me, you might have struggled with the idea of using synthetic chemicals on your skin. While we know that the beauty industry has many advancements in chemical ingredients that can reverse some of the damage and other exposures to our skin over the years, is it good for our overall health and hormones? If you take care to buy organic food and look at the ingredients of what you eat as I do, it seems like an oxymoron to use harmful chemicals that often contain artificial fragrance and synthetic chemicals on my largest organ- my skin.
Like most things in life, for me, it’s about balance. Some of the products in my skincare arsenal are not going to be 100% chemical-free- we all should be using some form of Vitamin C on our skin (more on that to come- but this is my favorite- 20%  +E Ferulic Acid- it is non-greasy and just absorbs into the skin), and there is certainly a place for other acids such as lactic acid, salicylic acid, AHAs and BHAs, and of course, retinoids. But these can irritate our skin at times, and leave us dry and scaly. I find that when I carefully choose between these types of ingredients and switch to my favorite all-time natural skin care  products, my skin just glows and I get  compliments on my makeup-free skin. There are many amazing formulations of nutrient-rich natural skincare products available, full of vitamins, antioxidants, essential oils, and botanical extracts that protect from environmental damage, promote collagen production, and improve your skin texture and tone. By nourishing the skin with these nutrients, a radiant complexion comes from within. We will dig deeper into some of these products in another blog.
When your face looks glowing from the inside out from using effective beautiful natural ingredients and putting good stuff in your body (and keeping bad stuff out) you feel good about your appearance and aren’t bothered by the other signs of aging nearly as much. And we all are capable of having this glow. Yes, it can be enhanced by peels and lasers and LED masks, (this is the one I have and use every day-I’ll cover why I purchased this one over the many other options in another blog)  and I’d rather put any extra time and funds I have into having glowing skin than being wrinkle-free at 52.
Skincare has become a ritual. Look at any TikTok and you will see people of all ages touting their routine- my college-age daughters have as many steps in their skincare at 19 as I do at 52! The products they need are different than mine, but the ritual is still the same, and we all love it. When you use natural products you create an interconnectedness of mind, body, and environment. By prioritizing natural ingredients often rooted in aromatherapy, you encourage a deeper connection with yourself. It’s not about achieving a superficial beauty but nurturing a sense of well-being that radiates from within. And that to me sounds like the perfect way to age naturally!
